Bert Kay Dissertation Award
Each year, the department selects an outstanding dissertation award winner.
In 1998, the department voted to name this award the Bert Kay Outstanding Dissertation Award in memory of Bert Kay who received his Ph.D. in the Fall of 1996. Bert died as a result of a mugging in Palo Alto in June 1997, less than a year after receiving his Ph.D. Prior to 1998 this award was known as the Outstanding Dissertation Award.
