Many of the research projects in the department employ undergraduate students as part of the research team. See our undergraduate research page for more information. Note that there is a very limited number of CS undergraduate research assistant slots available and only students with outstanding academic records will be considered.
Proctor duties may include working in a computer lab, grading, tutoring, holding small discussions sections, or any other course related duties as assigned by the course instructors. Proctors are evaluated on their performance over the course of the semester based on their ability to perform assigned duties in a professional manner. These duties include being helpful and courteous to students, as well as being punctual and reliable. Proctors may be asked to attend weekly meetings and to be available to grade final exams.
Proctors can be assigned to work 10-20 hours per week at a pay rate based on their class rank as set by UT Human Resources. Proctors appointed to a 20-hour position are eligible for an out-of-state tuition waiver for the semester in which they proctor.
Complete the Proctor Application form by logging in with your UT EID at http://www.cs.utexas.edu/academics/undergraduate/forms/urop_proctor/. Deadlines for applications will be announced online, via flyers around Taylor Hall, and through the weekly CS newsletter (sent via email) each semester.
Appointed proctors who need a copy of the textbook for their assigned courses may borrow one from the department. To request a loaned textbook, you must have a current proctor appointment and submit an email to smoak@cs.utexas.edu with the following information: your name, the course number of the class you are proctoring, and your supervising instructor's name. Textbooks will not be loaned for personal use or for any courses in which a proctor is a student. All textbooks are due at the end of the semester in usable condition.
UT's Annual Honors Colloquium occurs each Summer. This annual event brings several hundred talented high school students to our campus each July. Each spring we seek UT students who would be strong candidates for the position of student mentor. Application information for the Annual Honors Colloquium will be available in the Spring.
