Incoming first-year and transfer students may apply for admission to the Entry-Level Computer Sciences major through the bealonghorn portal. Admission decisions are made by the university's Office of Admissions. All students begin as Entry-Level Computer Sciences majors, with the exception of Turing Scholars.
Students with a very strong academic background who seek greater intellectual challenges are encouraged to apply to the Turing Scholar Program. The program leads students through an engaging series of honors courses, culminating in an honors research thesis that allows students to work closely with faculty. Turing Scholars are admitted directly to the Computer Sciences major.
Transfer students may apply for admission to the Pre-Computer Sciences major (see above information). Transfer students from within the state of Texas may find the University's Automated Transfer Equivalency Database
useful. It is a searchable database in which one may look up the UT equivalent for any college course offered within the state of Texas.
Students must complete with a C or be enrolled in the following courses to apply: CS 307, CS 315, M 408C or M408L, and CS 313K. Depending on the mathematics and computer sciences backgrounds of individual students, these courses may take 1 to 3 semesters to complete. Most students gain admission directly following their first year.
At the University, there are 3 Departments within 3 separate Colleges that offer curriculums organized around computers.
