The University of Texas at Austin

Transfer Students

For internal transfer students, see Internal Transfer Sessions below.

Applying as an incoming transfer student

Transfer students may apply for admission to the Entry-level Computer Sciences major. Transfer students from within the state of Texas may find the University's Automated Transfer Equivalency Database useful. It is a searchable database in which one may look up the UT equivalent for any college course offered within the state of Texas.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply to the CS major a student must:

Transfer students who have completed more than 2 computer science classes may be directed to meet with the CS undergraduate faculty advisor for assistance with transfer assessment. For students who have completed all of the Entry-level CS courses out of residence, the CS Undergraduate Faculty Advisor will designate the next 2 computer science courses in the major to be used for the Entry-level CS GPA.

Should a student need to repeat a course in the Entry-level CS sequence (because he or she did not earn at least a C), the last attempt at the course will apply to the Entry-level CS GPA and all occurrences of the course will be used when calculating the overall UT GPA.

Students may apply to the CS major during the semester in which they become eligible. Typically this means that students apply near the end of the semester in which they take CS 315. The Department strives to offer all of the Entry-level CS courses during summers.

Because students must submit their applications before they know their grades for their last semester in the Entry-level CS sequence, they may not be sure that they meet the GPA requirements for eligibility. Students who apply and become ineligible when grades are reported may apply again during any semester in which they expect to become eligible.

Computer Sciences Internal Transfer Sessions
Fall 2009

The Department of Computer Sciences will be restricting some upper-division courses to declared CS majors beginning in Spring 2010. In anticipation of this change, we encourage students who are considering a dual degree or major degree change to attend one of our Internal Transfer Sessions. Major admission requirements and procedures will be reviewed prior to the November 16th application deadline. An academic advisor will also discuss opportunities for students to maximize their career potential, including an 18-hour Elements of Computing Certificate, 5-year BS/MS Integrated Degree, and more!
