Overview

The University of Texas at Austin Department of Computer Science (UTCS) is forging a bright digital future for Texas by building a strong interdisciplinary computing facility in the heart of the UT campus. The Bill & Melinda Gates Computer Science Complex will be the first step in the department's plan to transform computing education and research in Texas. The realization of our vision allows UTCS to pursue key goals that can ultimately ensure a regionally robust and secure digital future.

Where We Are Today

The $120 million Bill & Melinda Gates Computer Science Complex and the Dell Computer Science Hall, honors a total of $40 million in generous challenge grant gifts from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. An additional $80 million in university support completes the funding necessary to complete the building project.

Where We Need to Go

To position UTCS and Texas as the leaders of tomorrow's digital world takes vision, hard work and private support. Now that the building project is secured, we will focus on an endowment campaign to support programs and initiatives. Endowments will be a critical component in establishing the Bill & Melinda Gates Computer Science Complex as the premier center for computer science research and teaching.

The new complex and endowment campaign will:

  • assist in rising to a top five computer science program that will, in turn, support a prosperous high-tech economy with talent and innovation,
  • educate innovative, risk-taking, entrepreneurial problem solvers with computing talent to lead and design solutions beyond today’s challenges, and
  • create cutting-edge research activity that is embraced by the community of engineers, scientists, scholars, entrepreneurs, and industry, and produces solutions for the 21st century and beyond.
