Talk Title: Post-Link Technology and Its Significance to the Marketplace
Talk Abstract:
Post-link technology is usually known as the soft
ware
tooling for applying transformations directly on the binary
ex
ecutable files. These tools include feedback-directed
binary-level opt
imizers binary instrumentation or binary
probing for monitoring or sim
ulation purposes and binary-
level performance analyzers. This is a co
mplex and
important technology that relies on accurate and
comprehe
nsive disassembly of the given executable file.
Post-link technology h
as now become a key player in the
future success of the new emerging mu
lti-core platforms
as the research and experience gathered on post-lin
k code
is now needed in order to be able to applyhigh-performance
o
ptimizations directly on the image of the program at run-time.
Today
companies such as IBM use post-link tools in their daily
builds for per
formance analysis design verification and its
optimization processes.
In this talk I will go over some of the
existing post-link tools used
in IBM and their variety of usage
along with an overview of the key c
hallenges that this technology
is facing.
