Title: UT Puzzlethon

Talk Abstract:
A Facebook Hackathon is whe

re our engineers can code up
features that they''ve always wanted to wo

rk on but never had
the time. Past Hackathon projects have led to site

features like
Video Chat and Marketplace infrastructure projects lik

e
PHP => C++ conversion internal tools and sweet site tweaks
like
the search typehead and share integration with Inbox.

This year we

''re bringing a puzzle version of the Facebook
Hackathon to University

of Texas! We have crafted a complicated
inter-process communication pu

zzle of sorts for you to solve.
The puzzle is based around Thrift an

open source RPC framework
that was developed at Facebook.

Meet
at Taylor Hall Basement for the kick off at 2 PM sharp. We
encourage y

ou to find a group of up to 3 people. Food and beverages
will be provi

ded to keep you all on your toes. There will also be a
handful of Faceb

ook engineers there to help you with the ins and
outs of Thrift.
<

br>We will be awarding prizes to the team who accurately solves the
puz

zle in the given amount of time. So put your puzzle hats on and
get yo

ur team together now!

Puzzle Solving: 2:00-5:45
Awards: 5:45-6:00

Food and beverage will be out the whole time!

We hope that you w

ill attend so we can share with you a bit of our
culture but more impo

rtantly we''d like to show you how we encourage
creativity and innovat

ion which is integral to maintaining our position
as the world''s lead

ing social network.
