Title of Talk: ''The Neurobiology of
Decision''
Reception with Refreshments at 11:30 AM
Abstract:
A decade ago little was known about the neurobiological
architecture fo
r decision-making. Today the broad outlines of that
system have been id
entified. Frontal and basal-ganglia circuits
involved in valuation and
learning have been described that
generate the subjective values that g
uide choice. These
valuations then pass to frontal and parietal circuit
s for actual
decision-making. In this presentation I will review the ba
sic
structure of this two part mechanism for decision-making. I will then present a recent example study of the human valuation circuit
tha
t participates in inter-temporal choice followed by a related study
of
the choice mechanism in non-human primates.
