Talk Abstract: We will cover some of our recent work that makes learning more human-like by allowing machines to leverage knowledge from other domains and ask queries. The former is generally known as transfer learning and more specifically, domain adaptation, multi-task or multi-source learning whilst the later is known as active learning. The contribution of our work is rigorous formulations of transfer learning and active methods that involve asking `easy' (non-label focused) queries. The talk will focus on learning methods, but we will motivate and demonstrate their use on analysis of medical images. Finally, we will sketch some directions on how to use active and transfer learning together by attempting to fix transfer failure via active learning.
