Public Computer Labs
The staff maintain several instructional computing laboratories in ENS and Painter Hall which are open to students in the department. You must have a UTCS account to access the machines in these labs. All CS students are eligible, as are non-CS majors who are enrolled in a qualifying class. An account can be requested here.
List of public UNIX hosts and their status
Remote login machines
In addition to the public machines in the labs, there are several machines (running the Linux OS Ubuntu Lucid Lynx) set up for remote access only. They are as follows:

The UTCS public labs
ENS 31NR
Located in the basement of ENS, this lab has 30 computers running the Linux OS Ubuntu Lucid Lynx. There are two printers located in this room, lw1 and lw27.
ENS 1
Also located in the basement of ENS, this lab has 23 stations with two machines each, one running Windows and one running the Linux OS Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, with a button to switch between the two.
ENS 2
Located in the basement of ENS, directly across from the elevators, this lab has 12 machines running Windows XP. There are two printers in this room, lw47 for the Linux machines and a Microlab printer for the Windows machines.
Painter 5.38N
The North end of Painter 5.38 contains 27 machines running Windows 7 and two printers - lw27 and a Microlab printer.
Painter 5.38S
Also known as the Lockheed-Martin Teaching Lab, the South end of Painter 5.38 has 26 stations with two machines each, one running Windows and one running the Linux OS Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, with a button to switch between the two. Printer lw48 is also located in this lab. This lab is occasionally reserved for classes, per the calendar located here or flyers posted in the lab.
