Fall 2003

Lab 2

Due: 2003-09-22 Monday 8.30 a.m. by email.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this lab is to learn about Database Design using ER-Diagrams.

IMPLEMENTATION:

For this lab, consider solving all of the following:

a)    Problems 2.57, 2.58, 2.59, 2.60, 2.61, 2.62, 2.63, 2.64 on pg. 65,66 of Chapter 2 from the text.

b)    Problem 3.38 on pg. 108, 109 of Chapter 3 from the text.

For the ER-diagrams, you can use any commercial software (MS-Word, Visio [which contains built-in templates in the Database folder], ErWIN, MS-Paint etc.). Also, see links 51, 52, 53 on the class web page. Clearly label/write any assumptions you make during the design.

SUBMISSION:

Please submit an electronic zipped file by emailing it to the TA (CC: the instructor) by the Due Date/Time. Consult the class web page for

-          Email addresses of Instructor/TA

-          Late submission policy

-          Academic Dishonesty Policy

NOTE: For electronic submissions, use file naming conventions such as lab2fffllll.zip, lab2fffllll.mdb etc., where fff are the first 3 characters of your first name, llll are the last 4 characters of your last name.

For example, if I were submitting a MS-Word solution, then I would email a file named lab2ajagava.zip containing the file lab2ajagava.doc
