GDC. Three letters that signal the future of computing education and research in Central Texas.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Computer Science Complex and Dell Computer Science Hall (GDC) is the new center for computing at The University of Texas at Austin, and will further secure Austin and Texas as leaders in technology innovation. On March 6th we celebrated the GDC’s grand opening.

UT President Bill Powers and Bill Gates led a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Visitors explored the new building with a guided and self-guided tours. Highlights included key components of the new facilities as well as an interactive showcase of the research and teaching currently happening in UTCS.

Bill Gates spoke to a student audience live and in person! The lecture was also broadcast in the SAC Ballroom for the larger UT student popluation and was be streamed live from the UTCS website. A recording of the Bill Gates Student Lecture will be availabe two weeks after the grand opening.

When Bill Gates finished speaking, we threw open the doors, turned up the music, and fired up the grill. Everybody came back to the GDC atrium and courtyard for live music, local food, and good company.
