AUSTIN, Texas – The Game and Mobile Media Applications (GAMMA) Program announces a new certificate program for students at the University of Texas at Austin. The certificate program communicates to colleges and employers that students who complete the GAMMA Program are ready to design and develop interactive digital experiences, and provide leadership for the ever-expanding game, mobile app, and creative media industries.

“The GAMMA Program has expanded rapidly since it began in 2012,” said Paul Toprac, associate director and senior lecturer of the GAMMA Program. “I am pleased that we have been able to create a certificate program to validate the hard-earned knowledge and skills that students obtain in the program.”

The GAMMA Program is a collaborative partnership between the College of Fine Arts (CoFA), Computer Science (CS) Department, and Radio-Television-Film (RTF) Department to teach interdisciplinary, 21st Century digital skills. The following certificates are being offered:

• Digital Art Production Certificate (CoFA)
• Digital Audio Composition & Production Certificate (CoFA)
• Digital World Designer Certificate (CoFA)
• Game Development Certificate (CS)
• Mobile Computing Certificate (CS)
• Visual Effects & Animation Certificate (RTF)

A letter explaining the GAMMA Program and the completed requirements of the program will also accompany the certificates, which can be stated on a resume as confirmation of students’ knowledge and experience. Furthermore, students in the Bridging Disciplines’ Digital Arts & Media Program can earn their certificates with an emphasis in Game Development when completing the requirements of the program.

“The certificate communicates to potential employers that GAMMA students have the knowhow to obtain entry- to mid-level jobs in interactive digital media development,” continues Toprac. “We expect this will empower our graduates to forge ahead and be successful in their careers.”

The new certificate program is available to all GAMMA students starting Fall 2014.
