Yahoo! Hack U is two days of learning, hacking and fun. Yahoo! Hack U came to UTCS March 22 & 23rd. Attendees at this year's hack heard interesting tech talks, received hacking tips and lessons, and took part in hands-on coding workshops where they worked with cutting-edge technology.
Explore UT, a campus community engagement event held each March, invites the public to experience UT. Thousands of people explored the UTCS program, discovering the fun of computer science, engaging in artificial intelligence, software programming, gaming, graphics and visualization, and chatting with academic advisers.
The University of Texas at Austin's newest space for startups — Longhorn Startup Camp — will be a stop on the SXSW Startup Crawl, which takes place Thursday, March 8, from 4 to 10 p.m. as part of UT Entrepreneurship Week. As a stop on the crawl, Longhorn Startup Camp will showcase its residents – 27 new startups, all originated at the university.
The department hosted prospective Ph.D. students at GradFest 2012, a two-day exploration of UTCS research, resources, and community. Over 30 admitted students attended panel discussions, toured labs, and met with faculty one-on-one. Current graduate students hosted the out-of-towners in their own homes for a real look at life as a UTCS grad student.
91% of employers at the 2012 CNS Career Fair were seeking computer science students and alumni. The Career Fair also debuted "Startup Village" this year, a partnership between UTCS, UT CNS and the startup community.
(Re)Connect, an evening networking reception, brought together UTCS alumni, select UTCS students and FoCS partners on February 1, 2012 for an energetic and effective recruiting, mentoring and networking opportunity at the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center.
