07/01/2021 - Alum Romelia Flores was born and raised in Eagle Pass, Texas along the Mexican border. When she first arrived at UT, Romelia tried out a few different majors before landing on computer science. She came in as a biology major, then declared a math major due to her love of mathematics. She thoroughly enjoyed mathematics courses, particularly calculus because the formulas and equations were natural for her to understand and logically obtain correct results. Read more

11/08/2010 - On Monday, November 8, 2010, the UT Department of Computer Science held the annual Visions of Computing Lecture, a lecture series honoring UTCS faculty accomplishments. Through this lecture series, faculty present insights into computer science research and education to the public and the computing community. 12/04/2009 - Association of Computing Machinery Fellow On Friday, December 4th, 2009, Dr. Dale was selected as Fellow of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) for her distinguished service to the ACM and impact on computing education, a high honor in the field of computer science. An official induction ceremony will be held at the ACM Awards Banquet on June 26, 2010, in San Francisco. Read more
06/01/2003 - Nell B. Dale with coauthor, John Lewis, received honorable mention and a $3,000 prize for their book, Computer Sciences Illuminated published by Jones and Bartlett. These annual awards are made to UT faculty and staff members who have, in the preceding academic year, published the best books. A committee of scholars appointed by the UT Vice President for Research judges the competition. She is the only two-time winner in the competition. Read more
04/13/2002 - Dr. Nell B. Dale, Senior Lecturer and member of the UT Department of Computer Sciences since 1975, received the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)'s prestigious Karl V. Karlstrom Outstanding Educator Award for "changing the study of computer programming to focus on problem solving and software engineering principles, and away from language syntax." Read more
