With a $50 million gift from the LIVESTRONG Foundation to the Dell Medical School, The University of Texas at Austin has exceeded its goal of raising $3 billion during the eight-year Campaign for Texas. This is the most ever raised by a higher education institution in Texas and among the largest amounts raised by a U.S. public university in a single campaign.

More than 139,000 alumni and some 120,000 additional friends made gifts during the campaign. More than 12,000 other donors, including foundations, associations, and corporations, have given as well during the course of this, the largest capital campaign in the history of Texas higher education.

The Department of Computer Science enjoyed numerous successes during the course of the campaign, most notably contributions from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Michael & Susan Dell Foundation to enable the construction of the Bill & Melinda Gates Computer Science Complex and Dell Computer Science Hall
