The purpose of this document is to outline the steps for getting your research poster printed by the UTCS publications office. If you have any questions regarding this process, send mail to pubs@cs.utexas.edu. Please read the online instructions as well as a more detailed document, the PDF file Making Posters (PDF) .
Posters are available at no charge to current UTCS students, faculty and staff for department-related work, such as conference presentations, talks and the UTCS film festival. We regret we can not service other departments or visitors.
Faculty Innovation Center will sometimes take ad hoc print jobs outside Engineering, depending on their workload: http://fic.engr.utexas.edu/index.cfm
All requests to Publications require the publications request form be submitted to start your job. There is a two-day turn around time to print one.
To have your poster printed, submit a request throught the publication request forrm at least two full business days prior to the deadline. If you have multiple research posters that need to be printed submit one through the publication request form and email the rest to pubs@cs.utexas.edu.
In your mail be sure to include:
If you would like the poster mounted on foamcore, the poster must be either 30"x 40" or 20"x30." 30"x40" is the most common size used for research posters. Adobe Illustrator CS is now available for use on a computer in the GRACS office. You will find a manual there, as well as several others you can check out from the Pubs office. Pubs is open during business hours. For additional assistance, email pubs@cs.utexas.edu.
We do not accept walk-in traffic. All orders must be submitted through the publication request form.
The ImageMagick suite is capable of all types of conversion and is installed on the CS unix machines. Using it is simple: convert originalfile.format newfile.newformat convert automatically determines the original filetype from the file itself and chooses the output format based on the file extension you provide for the newfile. For example, convert file.ps file.gif will convert the file from postscript to GIF. see the convert(1) man page for more information on the formats it supports.

The poster must be submitted to be printed at least two business days prior to your deadline. Otherwise you run a real risk of not meeting your deadline. Our printer may be down, we may be waiting on ink cartridges or paper, or the Publications Office may have other project deadlines that will not accommodate last minute requests for printing.
Please do not use a background. These generally do not print well and use up too much ink. Instead be creative with your fonts and font colors, diagrams, photos, colored boxes, and lines. These will make an attractive poster without using a background.
The CIT lab also has a large format printer. It is located at: GSB 2.130 Phone: 475-6364
Make sure you review their web site for office hours and instructions. In order to print, you will need Bevo bucks or a departmental account.
