Technology Changes the World…
Invest in your future…Invest in UTCS!

Computing is an instrument that allows us to peer into realms of time and space heretofore beyond our sight. -UTCS Chair, Dr. J Strother Moore

Why Invest in UTCS?

Imagine being able to invest in tomorrow…by investing in one of the most innovative and remarkable computer sciences departments in the nation.

Why? Because…

  1. The University of Texas at Austin’s Department of Computer Sciences is the largest top 10 ranked computer sciences department and is renowned as a leading-edge research center and for educational excellence. UTCS is a critical economic force for Central Texas as economically healthy regions are often centered on great computer sciences departments. UTCS’s estimated economic impact to the growth of Texas is $8.7 billion annually.1
  2. Computing enables virtually every thriving business and scientific research sector. From nanotech and biotech to business practices, health care, financial services, transportation and energy, computing is the cornerstone of economic and scientific advancement. Discoveries and contributions from UTCS have already spawned entire industries and will continue to do so.
  3. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, computer sciences is the largest and fastest growing job market in the science and engineering sector. 2 The high-tech industry in Texas employs more Texans than oil, gas and agriculture combined.3 Sloan Career Cornerstone Center reports “Computer scientists are expected to be among the fastest growing occupations through 2014.4
  4. Entrepreneurial and well-educated leaders are needed to conduct initiatives and build the world of tomorrow including inventing new paradigms for hardware and software design, new computer architectures, graphics tools, clustering and machine learning. Producing a workforce that can imagine and design the products and services that will shape our world ensures Texas a worthy legacy.
  5. At the same time that computing job growth expands, there is a deficit of graduates to fill job openings. UTCS must meet the technology human capital challenge in order to support a healthy economy and business environment. Private funding, used to attract and retain the best minds, is key to addressing this deficit of technology talent. Download the Reality Check PDF
  6. The U.S. is falling behind other countries in science and technology education. Closing this gap requires increased focus and resources to improve our competitive edge.
  7. Public funding contributes to only 18% of higher education funding and continues to decline. Private contributions are an urgent, necessary and growing part of higher education.
  8. Every gift comes with feelings of satisfaction, excitement and fulfillment at being a part of computing discovery for the future and beyond. Many donors report that making a difference with a gift is deeply satisfying and can be a transformative experience. http://www.utexas.edu/supportut/recognition/tls/
