People

The department's greatest asset is its people. A diverse community of students, faculty, and staff collaborate daily in creating a friendly and exciting environment for teaching, learning, research, and service.

Faculty and Research Scientists

As of Spring 2006, we have 45 tenure-track faculty members and 22 lecturers and adjuncts. Our faculty has amassed a wide variety of awards, including the IEEE W. Wallace McDowell Award, the Grace Murray Hopper Award, the ACM Paris Kanellakis Award for Theory and Practice, the ACM Software System Awards (2004, 2005), the Herbrand Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, two Packard Fellowships, many Sloan Fellowships and NSF CAREER Awards.

Staff

A staff of approximately 35 report to the Associate Chairs. These staff members provide day-to-day infrastructure support in the areas of external affairs, administration, accounting, facilities and computing, purchasing, and graduate and undergraduate studies.

Graduate Students

Currently, 192 PhD students and 82 Master's students are enrolled in our graduate program. Fifty-six doctoral students are "in candidacy."

We have a large population of international students from around the world, including Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Columbia, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Korea, Malaysia, Macao, Mexico, Pakistan, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Switzerland, and Taiwan!

Undergraduates

At present we have 234 pre-majors enrolled. The BA and BS programs, combined, currently serve 624 students, including our 124 honors program students, Turing Scholars.The total number of undergraduates is currently 858.

Alumni

The department has approximately 6,500 alumni. In the fall of 2006, the Computer Sciences department will launch a new alumni program. Please check the Alumni Information page for details.
