Finding Research Opportunities
The department would like to encourage more students to get involved with undergraduate research and many of our professors are very interested in working with undergrads. So how should you find the project/professor that is right for you?
Start by visiting the department’s Research page. Wander around and find the areas that interest you. See who the faculty in those areas are. Check out their websites. When you find a professor you might want to work with, go to his/her office hours and talk about your interest. Some professors require that, before you join their research team, you take their class. So start early and plan to take classes in the areas in which you might like to do research.
We understand that this process can seem daunting. If you're not sure where to start, tgrady [at] cs [dot] utexas [dot] edu (email) Tiffany Grady and set up an appointment with her. She may be able to help point you in some useful directions.
