Research Interests

I am currently interested in learning and robotics. In particular, I would like to build a system in which a robot can "wake up" in the real world completely unaware of its environment or its sensors. The robot must learn to organize its sensors, learn reasonable ways of moving around the environment and learn how to create and distinguish landmarks in the environment.

Projects

Learning the Spatial Semantic Hierarchy: We want to utilize learning techniques to have a robot build its own representation of Dr. Kuipers' Spatial Semantc Hierarchy. Currently, we are working on the low level control and causal levels of the SSH. This mainly deals with learning control laws and learning to recognize views in the environment.
