These pages mark the online presence of me, Ashay Rane. I am currently pursuing a PhD degree in Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin (UT). I am working with Professor Calvin Lin and Professor James Browne on issues related to performance optimization of programs by leveraging information from compilers and the architectures. Of late, I have also been interested in problems like data race detection, which deal with correctness of multi-threaded programs.
Prior to joining UT as a graduate student, I worked at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as a Research Associate. There I researched, developed and maintained PerfExpert. While at TACC, I also worked on researching and writing other tools / techniques for performance optimization, which included the MACPO (Memory Access Centric Performance Optimization) tool and the process of applying PerfExpert and MACPO to recognize code segments suited to run on coprocessors like the Intel MIC.
I have been a resident of Austin for almost two years now and I love the city! The people of the city are very open-minded and accepting of various cultures. It helps to live in a place that is friendly, enthusiastic, young at heart and which welcomes everyone to be a part of it! If you find yourself in Austin, check out MedMob, the Lady Bird Lake trail, the Oasis at Lake Travis, the bats under the Congress bridge and kayaking at the town lake!
