what you may be remembering may be an effect of the little flashing light 
timers we had the session chairs use to move the speakers along from "talk" 
to "q&a" to "get off the stage" (green light, yellow light, red light).

I personally appreciated the 2005 strategy that Greg/Ramesh instituted.  
I thought that the talks were more cogent (even the slides seemed more 
interesting), and it seemed to me that there was more discussion than 
previous years.
