The following email consists of * a slight tweaking (VERSION 2) of the 2004 TMRF: which is a tweaking only of tutorial registration fees $$$.... * AND a history of registration fees to give us perspective compared to other conferences ... I have updated the approved TMRF budget with all the most recent guestimates that you have sent me (or mentioned earlier) and it is within $200 of the original budget!!!! (i.e. at this point so close to the conference, the expenses are well understood, and thus the 10% contingency of $21k should end up becoming almost 100% surplus for SIGCOMM 2004). However, I have wanted to experiment with a Version 2 of the reg. fees and have discussed it with several of you a few months ago: * the goal is to lower the tutorial reg. fees from $380 to a smaller amount and I am proporsing that we use $300.... in order to move the tutorial fee closer to what the workshop fee is, in order to allow someone to more comfortably sign up for a tutorial... thus the final fund raising by Raj is not only subsidizing the student reg. fees, but it also subsidizing a bit of the tutorials. The impact of Version 2 of the reg. fees is that the final surplus decreases from $11.2k to $8.2k.... but the 10% contingency is still $21K. The bottom line of version 2 fees is that if a member registers for 1 technical symposium, 1 workshop & 1 tutorial, that the total = $525+$150+300= $975, i.e. it does not exceed $1000... and Monday/Friday costs are less than T+W+Th... Thanks, Chris PS: Marcel: in my earlier emails to you, I had suggested that if someone registers for two half-day tutorials that it's sum = the full-day tutorial fee. But, if someone only registers for one half-day tutorial, that we charge a bit more for just one tutorial: if we use the version 2 fees, then I suggest: $200 per member for a half-day tutorial, and $300 per member for 2 half-days... (i.e. to encourage participants to register for both half-day tutorials.)
