Dear XXX, We are very pleased to inform you that your application for a travel grant for Sigcomm 2002 has been accepted. We have allocated $800 (USD) to cover your expenses. This amount is to cover - The airfare ($250). This estimate assumes a Saturday night stayover (please note that this is only an estimate, as airfares may change without notice). If you don't plan for a Saturday night stayover, you may be able to use Council Travel (http://www.counciltravel.com/) which usually offers special deals for students without requiring a Saturday night stay. - The hotel ($400). This will cover the cost of three nights at the conference hotel. Alternatively, you can stay for an extended period of time provided that you will share the room with another student. - The conference registration ($150). Please note that you have to register yourself, and then send the registration receipt together with all the other receipts for reimbursement (see below). - For the reimbursement you have to complete the form available at http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~prs/TravelForm.htm, and include it with your receipts. A HARD DEADLINE of July 22th, 2002 at 5:00pm US Eastern Time has been set to notify us of your acceptance of this award. If we do not receive your acceptance, the award will immediately go to an alternate candidate. We strongly encourage you to book your flight and reserve your room immediately, to lock in a low rate. Advance payment on the award is possible and you will receive instructions on how to request it. Note, however, that it takes three weeks to process. The committee reviewed a large number of applicants and considered several factors before reaching its final decision. These include, but are not limited to, the following: (a) Students with exceptional track record and strong recommendation from their advisers. (b) Students who are at the middle part of their studies and exposure to Sigcomm would benefit them most. (c) Students who have demonstrated financial hardship. (d) Students who have never attended Sigcomm before. (e) Students who have not received a Sigcomm travel grant in the past. (f) Students who had posters accepted. We would like to extend our appreciation and thanks to NSF and CISCO for making these awards possible, and to you and your advisor for participating in this venue. Sincerely, The Student Travel Grant committee Ion Stoica, chair (UC Berkeley) Sally Floyd (ICIR) Ed Knightly (Rice) Srinivasan Seshan (CMU) Karen Sollins (MIT)
