Web master details (last updated 5/1/2003) 1) We try to only use ACM URLs and a format that's so easy to guess: acm.org/sigcomm/sigcomm2003/ or acm.org/sigcomm/HotNets-II/ IMW/IMC has different goals, but after the conference they publish the papers on the SIGCOMM page (and the digital library) acm.org/sigcomm/imw2001/ ideally sensys will eventually use something like: acm.org/sensys2003/ 2) use relative links (since your copy will be sent to ACM and hosted there) 3) Expect the following phases: * one or 2 web pages at the beginning (simple home page, plus cfp) * complete the web design, coordinating with the publicity folks. * add news and dates throughout the conference planning to the main page * add in local highlights, hotel info, maps. For both US and European conferences we should specifically state the distance from each hotel to the conference event. and create a map that shows the venue, the hotels, and where all the special activities will be: lunch, reception, terminal room (assuming that there will be one), .... * add in titles of workshops when selected (plus their cfp, and instr. to authors, and deadlines) * add in tutorials when selected * Lots of specific changes to put the AP online (trickling in over a 3 week period) this can involve updates (more extensive info) to everything, plus of course the conference program . Coordinate with whomever is creating the advance program to make it easy to transfer the AP (often done in a word processor/publishing software) into html --- that may be easier? * Occasionally, the webmaster creates the registration form but this is quite rare * Coordinate with the "advance program" person to create a PDF of the LONG form of the entire program - in case people just want to print out the complete AP... since we don't email the complete AP, nor do we postal mail it. * Papers online (The SIGCOMM Info Services director will have advice for you: there is a basic standard approach: a) an abstract, b) and plus the paper) Create the abstract for each paper, then link in the electronic form(s) (currently 2003 just one form: pdf) of each of the accepted papers. Ideally you will get the electronic copy from the proceedings service. For some reason in 2002, the service couldn't give us the papers in time.... See the following URL: http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/chris/sigcomm/conf/planning/program.chair/online.publishing` * Best Student Paper and annual SIGCOMM Award announcements will arrive at various times. * Add in the programs for each of the workshops (thus the workshop pages may change structure ) * Poster session pages? I don't believe that the poster session 1pg abstracts are linked.... they are published in the next CCR. * (if swamped, forget it) an automated way to create a pdf of most of the info on the conference web page --- for those people who want just to print out the whole thing? It has to be automated, since updates are frequent. * Proceedings person (and everyone else) will occasionally have some small updates to the Program as needed, changed affiliations, or title of paper was changed... session chair changes, time of event changes, etc... ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) The typical process to publish a change on the ACM's web page is multi-step: Webmaster --> SIGCOMM Info Services --> ACM 2002: Hi Chris, People usually send me a tarball or a zip file or a shadow directory and I upload them to the SIGCOMM site. It has worked pretty well in the past, I upload the pages the same day most of the time. I don't have the capacity to create accounts on the ACM server, ACM HQ can do that and I don't know if they want to create different accounts for different conferences and it could be a bit of a mess with permissions regards, -andreas With workshops it can begin to be byzantine: Workshop --> Coordinator --> Webmaster --> SIGCOMM Info Services --> ACM -------------------------------------------------------------------------
