Master's Admission Requirements
Our admissions committee considers the following criteria
in selecting students for admission:
- GRE and CS Subject Test scores and, for foreign students,
TOEFL scores.
- Undergraduate CS background and grades.
- Letters of reference (3 letters).
- Statement of Purpose.
Admission to the Master's program is highly competitive.
The following paragraphs describe typical qualifications of
students who have been admitted; since more students apply than
we can accommodate, meeting these criteria does not guarantee
admission.
- Average test scores of successful applicants to this program
are: GRE: 600 verbal and 790 quantitative (1390 Total).
CS Subject Test (AGRE): 760.
TOEFL: 630 paper / 267 computer version.
- Successful applicants to this program typically have a
CS degree with an overall grade-point average of at least 3.4
(on a 4.0 scale), and a computer science GPA of at least 3.5.
See the
description of the UT CS Degree Requirements
for examples of a typical undergraduate CS background.
Work experience with computers is usually not considered
to be an acceptable substitute for academic courses in CS.
Note: We do not consider applicants to our Master's Program
who already have earned or will earn, prior to enrollment, a
Master's level degree in Computer Sciences or closely related
subject, regardless of where it was earned!
