7:30 PM - ~ 10 PM         Dinner in the ACES Lobby

Sunday, March 4, 2001

12:00 PM                       Picnic in Eastwoods Park (catered)

Here are some details regarding these events.

·        A block of rooms for Saturday night has been reserved at The Doubletree Club Hotel – University.  It’s at 1617 I35 North, which is right across I35 from the Erwin Center.  Contact them at 512-479-4000 (see below)

·        There are no longer vacancies at The Doubletree Club Hotel – University.  We have gotten additional rooms at the Doubletree at 6505 I35 North, which is near the intersection of US 290 and I 35.  Contact them at 512-454-3737 and ask for “Reservations”; then mention “Dean’s Scholars”.

·        All of the presentations will be in the auditorium of the new ACES Building (SE corner of 24th and Speedway) unless otherwise indicated.

·        There may be some minor changes to the program.  You may visit the Dean’s Scholars Web site and click on Alumni Reunion for the latest information.

·        Current Junior and Senior Dean's Scholars will be invited to join the alumni for the Saturday lunch.  All Dean's Scholars will be invited to attend the picnic Sunday.

·        Following the open discussion of the status and future of the program Saturday afternoon, we will encourage the alumni to reminisce, discuss their lives, etc.  The ACES Auditorium allows for the projection of photographs both paper and digital, linking to websites, and even display of PowerPoint presentations.  Bring some old pictures to go with your stories.

·        The dinner will be catered by Jeffrey's.  Those desiring vegetarian meals should indicate such on the return card.  Your guests are welcome to attend the dinner and any of the events if registered on the card.  The fee is $65 per person.  (The College is prepared to subsidize a portion of the fee for alumni who are currently in graduate or medical school.  Please contact me.)

·        Entire families are welcome at the picnic. Originally this was to have been a Bring-Your-Own event but the College has now offered to cater it for us.

·        The University will be holding an open house titled Explore UT on Saturday, March 3.  More information is available at http://www.utexas.edu/events/exploreut/.  Part of this program is the College of Natural Sciences’ own Austin Science Fun Day.  For more information on that, visit http://www.utexas.edu/depts/tmm/events/asfd/.

We very much encourage you to attend the Reunion.  Please indicate your desire to join us by completing and returning the enclosed card.  The fee is $65 per person.

For those of you unable to attend the Reunion, we encourage you to send a message to the group (via my email cline@cs.utexas.edu).  I will print and post all such messages at the Reunion.  Lastly, may I once again encourage you to visit the Dean's Scholars web site at

http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/cline/dsbrochure.html

and click on the Alumni link both to enter information about yourself and to read about your buddies.  The Alumni page has grown substantially since my November letter, by the way.

Yours,

Alan Kaylor Cline

Director, The Dean's Scholars Program and David Bruton, Jr. Professor of Computer Sciences
