DS Council Weekly Minutes for the Meeting on Tuesday, 17 September 2002
|
In attendance: Jeffrey, James, Andy, Bess, Marshall, Cameron, Swee, Tim, Brittany,
Ann Marie, Will, Ellie, Clare
Absent: Barbara
- Brittany and Ann Marie reported on the previous Friday's lunch with the
dean.
- Marshall gave an update on our intramural athletic prowess -- soccer and
volleyball start soon, and the coed football A Team (where A stands for
"Juggernaut") won its first game on the strength of its impenetrable
defense.
- Because the hotel was booked for the weekend we wanted to go to Fort
Davis, we had to change our plans. The new weekend is that of November 8th.
- The council dinner with Cline will take place this Sunday at Eastside
Café. Our reservations are for 7:30 (the closest to 7:00 I could get for
such a large group).
- Bess told us that there will be a Karaoke Social to take place on
Firday, October 18th. (More details on the social to follow)
- The DS Activities Meeting to update first year members on what they can
expect to get out of DS is on Thursday the 19th at 5 PM in Carothers 007.
- There will be an MSEP workshop this Saturday in the DS Office to build
stuff.
- We attempted to pare down our list of shirt ideas for the purposes of
getting the entire program's input on our best ones.
- We decided to send out the list of t-shirt ideas to be voted on by the
rest of DS.
- We brainstormed procedures for breaking ties in DS council spring
elections. Marshall outlined the following procedure: If n people tie for
the last spot, randomly choose 3 people that were elected without dispute
and hold a "runoff" between those n+3 people. The 3 fill-ins will be on
council regardless, and the runoff vote will only be used to differentiate
between the people tied for the tenth spot in the first vote. Thus no one
actually knows who the last person was. A motion was made to table the
final vote until next week in case someone comes up with a procedure to
break the tie that doesn't involve a runoff election. It passed without a
dissenting vote.
- Next week's meeting time was set for Thursday, 9/26 at 9:30. This is only
a one-week change to accommodate the DSDSS talk by Neal Lane on Tuesday, and
the following week we will revert to our permanent meeting time of Tuesday
at 9 PM.
