"Terms?    What!  This page is copyrighted?"

To copyright something is to protect a piece of work, including web pages, that expresses an original idea.  This Undergraduate Research Guide of the College of Natural Sciences is protected under copyright for mainly the following reasons:

• The method of collecting the data was mostly through either an online form which submits information via email, or through a printed, hard copy form which was designed by the coding author of the guide, Sara Cecilia Martinez.
• The voluntary information respectfully submitted/collected from the faculty was placed on the guide in an original format of which the author was not aware has/had previously existed.
• The guide was neither specially ordered nor commissioned.  No one has been a work for hire concerning this guide, therefore, it is owned by the author(s).

PLEASE UNDERSTAND that the information contained within the guide is for the benefit of undergraduates of UT-Austin, entering students, and transfer students -- basically for anyone interested in undergraduate research.  It is currently maintained under the support of the Dean's Scholars Program, but is for all individuals affiliated with the university.

Web-published documents, and original expressions in general, are protected as soon as they are created and saved.
