I looked at the January/July issues from 1988 to 1995 and picked SIMMS that caught my eye (no attempt to be comprehensive or scientific about which adds I looked at) The columns in prices.raw are as follows Month Year Page Size1 Size2 Access Price Month--month of data Year--year of data Page--page in Byte where advertizement found Size1--format of simm (e.g. 1x9 = 1M x 9 bits) Size2--MB of capacity Access--accesss time in ns price--advertized price in $'s ratio.go augments prices.raw with an extra column indicationg the $/MB ratio for each line year.plot creats a plot with year on the x axis and $/MB on the y axis year.gnuplot has the gnuplot commands tmp.plot has the (x,y) pairs year.ps has postscript year.mif has framemaker mif The file prices.short.dat is the summary -- what is the price per mb of the cheapest memory at 80ns or better. before 1/92, all prices are for 1MB/9 simms from 1/92 on, all prices are 1/4 the price of a 4MB/9 simm
