Each point indicates the cost per megabyte of DRAM based on advertisements in Byte magazine at the indicated time. All prices reflect memory purchased in 9-bit or 36-bit wide SIMM form with access times of 80ns or better. To provide the best price for each data point different years will purchase different amounts of data. For instance, before july 1991, the best prices were for 1MB SIMMs. For later times, the best prices are for 4 MB SIMMs or larger.
