Skylark DuQuesne

Random Observation

This struck me the other day, and maybe I'm naive for not noticing it before, but given the quote below, and the later date of Skylark DuQuesne, is it possible that this can be regarded as a self-parody? Especially given the ending, with evil (more or less) triumphant? This sort of reminds me of Monsters, the you-play-the-orc RPG put out by the Tunnels and Trolls folks (Flying Buffalo Incorporated, I think), or a Chaotic Evil Dungeons and Dragons campaign I was in very briefly.

Continuity Question

In the section on the last of the Fenachrone, the attack on the planet of the Fenachrone (does it have a name by the way) is mentioned as involving sixth-order forces, and Sleemet's fleet is using a fifth-order cosmic energy drive. However, the attack on the planet of the Fenachrone only used fifth-order forces, and Seaton only learned about sixth-order forces, and the sixth-order cosmic energy drive after his encounter with the intellectuals and passage through the fourth dimension, although he had a sixth-order detector when he destroyed Ravindau. This sure appears to be a continuity error (with Skylark Three and Skylark of Valeron).

I know Skylark DuQuesne was written later (copyright 1965) than the first three, but still, this seems fairly egregious.

Quotes

Seaton did grin then. "Well, you've always known that making things bigger and better is the fondest thing I am of." -- page 224.
