Sea Stories
This page focusses on sea stories. In particular,
Napoleonic "Fighting Sail" stories. I started this page to have
a place for
David Weber's
page to point to, when it talks about such things in reference to
his
Honor Harrington
series, and its relationship to such things. Since this is not
intended to be an
exhaustive list
, it just has the
entries that I am familiar with and come to mind.

Horatio Hornblower
Hornblower is a creation of C. S. Forrester, and is an officer of
the Royal Navy during the latter stages of the Wars of the French
Revolution and Empire. For example, he is still a fairly low
ranking Captain at the time of Trafalgar.
-
Richard Bolitho
Bolitho is the creation of
Alexander Kent
, which is a
pseudonym for Douglas Reeman. Bolitho
is also an officer in the Royal Navy, although his career begins,
or at least progresses, much earlier. He is already a captain,
although not a Post Captain, during the American Revolution. As a result,
he ends up being a Commodore and squadron commander while the
French Navy still poses a threat, and has a longer militarily
interesting, and more varied, career. This also has its
down side, since there weren't that many major fleet actions,
and Nelson was basically in command of them all, so Bolitho
spends most of his time during this stage of the war commanding
smaller squadrons on the periphery. As an example, during the
Egyptian Campaign, he is not at the Battle of the Nile, but
led a squadron of ships-of-the-line that destroyed Villenueve's(?)
advance guard, forcing the French to anchor at Aboukir Bay (sp)
rather than Alexandria.

Ramage
Ramage is the creation of Dudley Pope, is again a Royal Navy
officer, but his time of service is somewhere between Hornblower
and Bolitho. It has been a while since I read his adventures,
but I do remember that he had command of a cutter or sloop
at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent.
