Space Opera
I really like space opera, especially E. E. "Doc" Smith. One of the first
science fiction books I read was Triplanetary by Smith, in the Pyramid
version with those great "white with viewport showing strange spaceships"
covers. No people, just blazing projectors and hot jets. Lots of incandescent
beams vaporizing stuff left and right. They don't write them like that
anymore (for the most part), and it is on reflection probably just as well.
