attendance
Four missed unexcused lectures will result in failing the course.
You are only entitled to an absence in the following cases:
- Participation in a UT-sponsored activity including athletics and UT-sponsored organizations.
You must notify me one week before the lecture. - The lecture is in conflict with a religious observance.
You must notify me by the 12th class day. - A medical emergency.
You must provide me with a health provider's note within 24 hours.
quizzes
Three missed unexcused quizzes will result in failing the course.
There will be no make-up quizzes.
Missed quizzes will only be excused for the following reasons:
- Participation in a UT-sponsored activity including athletics and UT-sponsored organizations.
You must notify me one week before the quiz. - The quiz is in conflict with a religious observance.
You must notify me by the 12th class day. - A medical emergency.
You must provide me with a health provider's note within 24 hours.
Quizzes will consist of 3 multiple-choice questions worth 3 points each. Additionally, 1 point is just for showing up.
The TA will provide the solution to the quiz. The TA will grade, return, and post the grade of the quiz within one week. The grade can only be disputed within the following one week. All grade disputes must be made in writing by e-mail to the TA with supporting evidence or arguments.
tests
One missed unexcused test will result in failing the course.
You are only entitled to a make-up test in the following cases:
- Participation in a UT-sponsored activity including athletics and UT-sponsored organizations.
You must notify me one week before the test. - The test is in conflict with a religious observance.
You must notify me by the 12th class day. - A medical emergency.
You must provide me with a health provider's note within 24 hours.
Tests will be closed book with one page of notes.
The TA will not provide the solution to the test. The TA will grade and post the grade of the test within one week. The grade can only be disputed within the following one week. All grade disputes must be made in writing by e-mail to the TA with supporting evidence or arguments.
The TA will not return the test, but will make it available for review during office hours. If you do not return the test, you will receive a zero.
extra credit
A student can earn an additional 30 points total, 10 points for each of the following:
- Being one of the top five performers on a puzzler.
- Creating a wiki page on a paper, puzzler or project, or proposing and creating a wiki on some other topic, subject to my approval.
- Creating a multiple-choice question for a test.
