Poetry is a Man's Gift Poetry is a male gift, and separates men from women (P3). Women do not have the gift to write poetry. Women have the gift of being beautiful, bringing children to the world, and breastfeeding it. As Charlotte Bronte said, "To write, or read, or think, or to enquire, would cloud our beauty, and exhaust our time"... (p8) Women are not as skilled as men in writing poetry. In patriarchal western culture, the text's author is a father, whose pen is an instrument of generative power like his penis. (P6) The women need to realize that there are some skills that men have that women don't have. Physical activity is a skill that men are better than, for instance, working on cars, or playing sports. Mental activity is also a skill men are better than women in, i.e. playing chess or writing poetry. A successful author has two important concerns when writing a poem. Does he educate his readers with the metaphors that he has and does he pose many questions for the reader to ponder about. The text's author, whose pen is an instrument of generative power like his penis needs to have his pen to write his poem for generations of people to see, just like he needs to use his penis to start a generation of kids. The author serves as a father figure to the reader. The author educates the reader about his poem, but the reader needs to try figuring out when the poet is using metaphors. He cannot be spoiled in the poem and given an easy opportunity to understand everything. This relates to a child because a child must use what his father teaches him and what he learns for him self to find the truth. The text's author is a father who leaves his readers asking questions, which may not have correct answers to unless one asks the author. This is a little bit similar to how monotheists don't know everything about their religion. For example if I read a poem and it has mysteries that I can't answer, I ask my professor what the author meant, my professor gives me his opinion, but since neither one of us can ask the author what the author meant there is no way to know what will happen. This is a little bit similar to how monotheists don't know everything about their religion. A religious Jew can ask a Rabbi for an explanation of what was meant by something written in the bible, but there is no way the Rabbi can be certain about what was written in the bible. A text's author cannot be a mother, because mothers are nurturers, and they spoil their children, as a result they would not have a challenging poem. Poems need to give the readers questions to think about. Poetry is a man's gift.
