Who should apply?
First Bytes is aimed at young women who want a sneak peak into computer science that has changed our world.
The key elements of computer science are logical thinking and elegantly designed solutions to a wide variety of problems. Successful computer scientists work as teams to find innovative solutions to society's problems.
Is it for you?
- Do you like taking a large problem and thinking through how to break it up and make it solvable?
- Do you like doing the experiments in chemistry and biology?
- Do you like to organize things, e.g. the soccer team dinner, the post-prom party?
- Do you like learning new ways to solve old problems?
- Do you like puzzles, math, and using logic to figure things out?
- If you’ve had a chance to take a computer science or programming class, did you enjoy it? Were you good at it?
- Are you creative?
If you can answered “yes” to some of these, the First Bytes Summer Camp may be just what you're looking for this summer.
Are you eligibile?
You are encouraged to apply if:- You are a girl,
- You are finishing your sophomore or junior year in high school,
- You have done well in math and science classes,
- You have a GPA of 3.0 (or 80 out of 100), and
- You answered yes to several of the questions listed above.
No advanced math or prior programming experience is required. What is required is curiosity about the most powerful artifact the human race has ever built. Learn more by applying to First Bytes, today!
