Title: Computer Architecture

Overview:

This course focuses on Instruction Set Architectures (ISAs) and processors that implement these ISAs. The MIPS processor is used as the example that underlies all of the material covered.

Topics covered include:

·         Instructions and the MIPS ISA

·         Instruction pipelines

·         The memory hierarchy

·         Input/output, and

·         Multi-core and multi-processor systems.

Grading:

Grades are determined by homework assignments, in-class Quizes, two Exams and a final Exams.  Programming may be required for some of the homework assignments

Textbook:

The textbook for the class is Computer Organization and Design: The Hardware/Software Interface, 3rd Edition (Revised Printing), by Patterson and Hennessy.
