I am a fourth year PhD student in Computer Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin. My research is currently supported by an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. I'm also co-mastermind of FAI.

Research Interests
I'm interested primarily in generative models of latent combinatorial structure in unlabeled data; in particular the prickly notion of how representation comes to bear on learning. My previous home was in theoretical evolutionary biology where I studied evolvability under randomized search schemes. These two fields are not wholly unrelated, i.e. biological evolution may be a Bayes-optimal decision process.

Current Projects: Nonparametric Bayesian Approaches to Semantification/Information Extraction, Leveraging Evolvability in Search, Evolutionary Games with Unknown Payoff Distributions

Diversions: My hobby is taking photos; I co-author a blog on literary pleasures; I'm fluent in Japanese.
