The main text for this course is Python Essential Reference, 4th Edition by David M. Beazley. The link goes to Amazon where you can get a used copy for a little over $20 (which is a lot less expensive than the COOP bookstore). Python is currently undergoing a version change from 2.6 to 3.0. Our CS department linux machines are still running Python 2.6 so I have chosen a book that predominantly covers 2.6 but also includes notes on the differences between Python 2.6 and Python 3.0. The differences are sufficiently small that this book should remain useful to you after our class has ended for quite some time as it provides a thorough yet compact reference, most of which is relevant to both versions of Python.
