Abstract
The Internet's structure and routing algorithms create significant
challenges in distributing content and applications to a world-wide
audience. In this talk, I will explain some of these problems and show how
Akamai's content-delivery network solves them. If you've ever noticed all
those "akamai.net" URLs that fly by your browser and questioned what they do
or how they resolve to nearby servers regardless of where you are, then this
talk will answer those questions.

Biography
Robert Blumofe is Chief Architect at Akamai Technologies. He has been with
Akamai since August 1999, from its euphoric rise to today's challenging
realism. Before Akamai, Robert was an Assistant Professor at The University
of Texas at Austin. During his 4 years at UT, he did research on algorithms
and software for parallel and distributed systems, made some great friends,
learned a secret handshake, and generally had a great time. Robert earned
his Ph.D. in Computer Science from MIT in 1995 and his Sc.B. in Computer
Science from Brown University in 1989.
