Erik Floyd Eilerts was born in San Diego, California on September 14, 1966, the son of Nancy A. and Douglas G. Eilerts. After graduating from San Pasqual High School, Escondido, California, in 1984, he attended Palomar College in San Marcos, California for one year before transferring to the University of Texas at Austin. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science in December, 1988. Since October 1988, he has been primarily employed as a computer programmer for the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the University of Texas at Austin. In September, 1991, he entered the Graduate School of the University of Texas at Austin.
