A model of the cortical circuitry under a 2.5 mm by 5 mm patch
of primary visual cortical surface was constructed

Cortical neurons were grouped into a 45 by 90
array of mini-column groups spaced at a center-to-center distance

in the known anatomical proportion of excitatory:inhibitory cells
