Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel

Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel, Spermophilus lateralis, is seen on Mt. Ida. The golden-mantled ground squirrel is easily distinguished from the chipmunk: the ground squirrel is larger (15 cm (6") long in the body), has a rather bluntly rounded nose, and has stripes on the sides but not on the back.
