Peter Clark
Research
I'm an Associate Technical Fellow in the
Intelligent Information Systems Group
within Boeing's Mathematics and Computing Technology
Organization in Seattle, Washington, leading research in the areas of large knowledge
bases, machine inference, commonsense reasoning, and natural language processing,
with particular focus on how to acquire and exploit large amounts of domain knowledge. My current projects include:
- AQUAINT (Advanced Question-Answering for Intelligence), aiming to perform advanced question-answering over large bodies of text. Our project ("From WordNet to a Knowledge Base for Question-Answering") aims to inject automated commonsense reasoning into this process by exploiting and further developing WordNet, a large on-line linguistic resource.
- Halo II A project to acquire high-performance knowledge bases from domain
experts (in the areas of physics, chemistry, and biology) and use them for question-answering.
This is funded by Vulcan Inc, and is a follow-on from the earlier
Halo Pilot
project. We are working as part of the SRI Team, building a system called AURA.
- Mobius (DARPA) An exploratory looking a large-scale knowledge
acquisition and reasoning from text.

Personal
- I can sometimes be found camping, spending lots of time talking with friends, doing judo (sometimes...), and herding my three wonderful kids. Here are a few photos from this year.
