Happy Birthday Gusanito!!!

At 5:38a.m. tomorrow morning, Nathan will be turning one year old. It's hard to believe a year has gone by already. It's been a real roller coaster ride but we've survived it.

Nathan is amazing! He has developed so much within the last year. It almost seems like ages ago that he was a tiny little infant. Now he is running around all over the house wreaking havoc... After learning the power of the off-belly crawl, Nathan has decided to retire his old commando-style crawl. He's really fast too. He pulls himself up using any table, chair, box, wall, or tall toy he can find and has even started trying letting go. Today he practically stood up without any support and was able to maintain his free stance for several seconds... twice! He's also practicing walking using his My First Steps toy, little rocker, or the laundry basket for push support. Oh yes, and he has also started climbing. He tries to climb out of his bed and can actually do it if there is something firm for him to grab on to in the adjacent bed. He can also climb on top of any small table surfaces or ottomans. And, as you might imagine, he's into any drawer or cupboard he can possibly reach.

He's become constructive too... He use to love knocking down block towers [well, he still loves that] but now he actually stacks the blocks back up. He also really enjoys taking blocks out of and putting them back into their bin. But his most impressive "tricks" have been putting shaped blocks into their corresponding slots and putting discs back on the tower of hanoi peg. The latter was quite impressive. He went from showing almost no interest in putting the discs on the peg to suddenly just dropping them in like a pro. He did it so well that it took a few seconds for it to dawn on us that we had just witnessed a new feat!

Ah, and the little things... He's clapping now. He loves to clap his hands and to grab your hands and make them clap too. He also loves to raise his hands over his head in what we call the "stretchy stretch" game. It's essentially a simon says game of arm raising and clapping. It's adorable to watch him. He also loves rolling and bouncing the ball and throwing things, of course.

But most importantly, Nathan has been a very healthy boy. We're truly blessed.
