Happy Birthday Gusanito!
Nathan just turned two years old. We had a small birthday celebration for him at the house on January 25th. His cousins from McAllen and his little friend Emma were able to attend. We moved all the living room furniture out of the way and set up some play stations -- a 5'x5'x5' play hut with balls and a gymboree tunnel, a basketball hoop, a slide, his new Thomas train set and his new tricycle. The kids (all ages 1-3) seemed to have a blast.
Unfortunately, Nathan has not been as healthy this year as he was last year. Gusanito has had four febrile seizures since June (two of them on November 8th) and has been sick every week since he started daycare. The month of December was especially hard since all three of us were very affected by colds and cedar fever. It was a month of sleepless nights and bad sinus infections. I was allowed to take antibiotics and Claritin after Christmas (after the first trimester)... that helped tremendously. Also, my mother came up to relieve me and take care of Nathan the week between Christmas and New Year. It was much needed relief... I was able to get some rest and having Nathan out of daycare for two weeks helped him to finally recover from the sinus infections. We managed to start the new year off in much better health.
His accomplishments this month included beginning to catch balls (Dec 25th), nodding "yes" although still more in immitation (Jan 17th), signing "more" and "train" and signaling when he was peeing/pooping occassionally. Nathan appears to be learning that it is wrong to hit but his tantrums are getting worse.
Gusanito LOVES Bob the builder and wants to have those videos constantly playing in the background. He's added a new word to his vocabulary -- "Bob" :-)
