The Best Bike Route through

South Austin

Bruce Porter, Austin, Texas

This route goes between downtown Austin and Buda. I’m particularly pleased with the part through south Austin, which is somewhat better than Congress Avenue, and much better than S. 1^st St.

The southern end of this route connects to a nice cycling route to San Marcos, New Braunfels, and San Antonio. Also, the northern end connects to a great route to Bastrop.

If you’re on Adventure Cycling’s Southern Tier, this route through South Austin is an alternative to Section 4, Map A. If you also use the connecting routes mentioned above, you’ll have a very nice alternative to both Maps A and B of Section 4 of the Southern Tier.
