.: About Upsilon Pi Epsilon, Mu Chapter :.

Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE) was founded in 1967 as an honor society for the computing sciences by students at Texas A&M University. UPE is an independent organization which has received recognition from both the ACM (1967) and the IEEE-CS (1992) as an official honor society. At this writing, there are more than 120 UPE chapters worldwide. Texas currently has more UPE chapters than any other state, with a total of 16.

The University of Texas at Austin Chapter of UPE received its charter in 1987 as the 68th chapter overall. Our chapter was the 13th chapter chartered in Texas, and hence it is also known as the Texas Mu Chapter. Our membership is currently small, but we are working on ways to grow and make our chapter more active this semester. As both a service and social organization, we are hoping to put together a variety of different activities to achieve that goal. Some of these activities include peer tutoring, company nights, and social get-togethers.

Although UPE is a separate organization from ACM, the two have enjoyed a fairly close relationship at UT-Austin since UPE's inception. Many of our members have been also active in ACM. We have worked jointly with ACM over the years on projects such as peer tutoring. Our office is even located next door to the ACM office in the basement of Taylor Hall.

If you would like to find out more about the UPE at UT-Austin, you can email upe@cs.utexas.edu. Our phone number is 512-619-8983. If you happen to be in the neighborhood, you can stop by our office in Taylor 1.130; our office hours are usually posted on the door.
